Mainstream credit

iche area that tends to support the lower end of the demographic scale – those who struggle to get mainstream credit," says Mr Munroe. ...

What does mainstream credit mean? I hardly can come up with synonyms but I guess mainstream could mean high-scored or true or  something.

Thanks

Mainstream credit is the kind of credit that most people can get-- bank loans, credit cards, etc. Low income people are often unable to get this kind of credit, and if they can get any at all, it is from their local shops and private lenders.
