Mainly on article use on quiz clues

Hi. Please help. Let us say the following deals with quiz questions, where a certain number of clues are given for living or non-living things like "onions" and "soap." Which article should we use, definite or indefinite?

1. I am a/the round root of a plant. (onions)

2. It is in a/the bathroom. (soap)

3. I am a/the symbol of the winter season. (snow)

4. I am known as a/the huge animal with wings. (dragon?)

How about this made-up definition?

A robot is a/the machine built by a human or humans to follow instructions.

Also, please help me with this, too. For this, let us pretend this is a question for a cooking video, which students watched, dealt with the preparation of a certain simple meal.
