Made-up questions

Hi. Please tell me if these made-up comprehension questions to a certain video clip are correct (to be asked for fun with two brothers, perhaps). Especially tell me if the tenses are correct or not.

(made-up synopsis of a certain movie clip)

Five guys are standing in line to run a short huddle race. An official is ready to wave the flag to mark the start of the race. He waves it. Everyone starts to run. It is a good start. John Doe has a head start and clears the first three huddles faster than anybody. But after that, the guy on his left out-runs him and wins the race.

1. Where is (was?) the place where most of the scences are played out? Or where is (was?) the main setting?

2. Was there any misstart?

3. Did John Doe won the race? If John Doe didn't win the race, who won (who did - OK?)?

4. If you were one of runners there, what would have done to improve your chance of winning the race?

I am sorry, but the ones below are not related to a movie clip. Which one is correct? (By the way, Is the sentence "Which ones are correct?" correct?) Let us pretend we are talking about John Doe, who has all of his ten fingers.

Clue: John Doe has ten of these (this?) in his hands. What is (are?) this (they)?

Answer: finger (fingers?)
