Made of- made from- made by

Hi,

Could you please distinguish the meaning of those three? Thanks

Let me offer a few examples to show some of the differences.

Steel is made from iron. 'From' can indicate a change in the material.

This knife is made of steel. The knife is steel.

This knife was made by Tom. Tom made it.

This knife was made by sharpening a piece of steel. Describes the process.

It looks like Clive has already done that for you, but-- Made of = material is recognizable, basically unchanged: Stoneware is made of clay. Made from = material is significantly changed and not easily recognizable: Paper is made from wood . Made by = agent of manufacture.
