Macbeth

I'm reading "Macbeth" now,but the teacher asked us to find a quote to show it is "sight", but i don't get what kind of quotes can be like"sight". is it something like we can see it or...... i don't know~ my partner help me to find one which is" fair is foul, foul is fair." i don't know why it shows "sight"

I'm not sure that the quote from the Witches refers to sight specifically-- the speech is quite terse, with little context. What it means is that fair things seems foul to witches, and foul things seem fair to them. They like toad's eyes and dislike silver crucifixes (or is that vampires?).

Perhaps your teacher was referring to 'second sight'. That is a talent that some people have, to foresee the future. The witches in the play have second sight, when they tell MacBeth that he will become King.

i think sight doesn't mean second sight because it will be so easy to find them if sight is for second sight. maybe the explaination of the quote can help you a little bit. The witches suggested that they inhabit a world in which the moral order has been reversed, a world in which it is difficult to tell what is truly fair or good and what is indeed foul and evil. "Fair" means "of attractive appearance or nature", and "foul" means "of ugly appearance or nature".

So the quotation means: "appearances are deceptive". ("Appearances" relate to "sight".)
