MA motivation letter

What I really meant and maybe not expressed very well is that developing cultural tourism (the right way!) in a rural area can really motivate locals to understand how keeping their traditions alive, learning about their culture and sharing their views with tourists is exactly what sets them apart from other destinations and makes them unique. Brings them tourists and money which they can invest in education and preserving their heritage, but first they need to understand its importance and attractiveness of its 'authenticity'.

And people are travelling to experience something 'different'. Just a very simple example. An European who truly wants to experience, let's say Middle East (and this is a true definition of a cultural tourist to me, somebody who travels with an open mind to really get to know another culture) will not want to go to a coffee shop and have an espresso. He will want to taste traditional arabic coffee.

And what I found really fascinating when I visited Middle East for the first time is that, no matter their economic growth, you will see men in cities wearing traditional clothes just like the ones who still live in the desert. So, yes I really believe that cultural tourism can raise an awarness and help preserve some forms of authenticiy in a destination but it needs to be developed the right way and attract the 'right' kind of tourists. The world is evolving whether there is tourism or not.

Sorry for all this writing, but I wanted to explain my view. If I don't make sense to you, probably I won't to the acceptance commitee either. So I will just ask for a bit more guidance to better express my opinions in the letter.

Thank you Emotion: smile

I think the technical term for what you are describing is "sustainability." Another word I've seen is "ecotourism," which specifically refers to the natural environment.
