Which one sounds better?

First of all, I would generally spell that "linchpin", but your spelling is an acceptable variant.

Your second sentence sounds much better to me.
The first one might work with "a lynchpin" rather than "the lynchpin".

That said, I can't say for sure whether you understand how to use "linchpin" properly or not because your sentence is far too simple and general
