Lulu

Hello!

I've just come across an expression I had never encountered: " It was the first real fight they had ever had, and it was a lulu". Does it mean " it was an impressive one"? Anybody knows the origin?

Thanks!

Hi, It means 'very, very impressive, remarkable, amazing, etc. ' The origins seem to be obscure. It's a woman's name, which may have some bearing.

Thanks, Clive! Emotion: smile So, on the whole, it's "positive" ? And is it still used?

As to the origin: Tallulah (Bankhead)? Zulu ?

Hi,

It's hard to say. Have you ever heard of Louise Brooks? I believe she was a 'Lulu', in more than one sense of the word.

Yeah, I'd say you still hear it. Is it positive? Well, you can make a lulu of a mistake.

Best wishes, Clive

Yes of course I know who she is. Maybe "lulu" comes from "a **** of"?
