lowering sth down (is it 'redundant'?)

Hi,

I have the following sentence (in green) and i want your opinion, would you say the use of "lowering their voice down" in the sentence is redundant (aka: bad english) or that down is there just to emphasize the action to reduce the volume of conversations?

Use the "On Call" flag when answering an important call and let the people around you notice in order to have their cooperation into lowering their voice down and thus, the background noise.

/there's a group of guys here in the office that are planning to release a campaign to invite other colleagues to reduce their voice and such, but here there's also Mr. picky that points out that "lowering sth down" is redundant and certainly not a wise use of the english language/

Thanks in advance, i think the sentence might need some punctuation and no more.

lowering down is redundant, yes. And that's not the only problem with the sentence. let someone notice and have cooperation into are two problem areas that could be phrased more idiomatically, for example.

Thanks CJ. There is going to be an "on-call" sign to take out and use when needed, big enough that the guys around will notice it (by themselves) and then know their cooperation is required into speaking in lowered voices. Ideas on rephrasing it in a more conventional way?

Here's one way to do it:

When answering an important call, display the "On Call" sign prominently so that people around you can see it. And when you see an "On Call" sign, please cooperate by lowering your voice to reduce background noise as a courtesy to the caller.
