I looked up the word 'spam' in my dictionary and above it in brackets it said: (lowercase)

lowercase means the lowercase letters...i.e., not capital letters. This would be in there to indicate that they meant spam instead of Spam by the definition.

spam (lowercase) is the junk mail we get through e-mail.

Spam is this really awful meat product, (my personal opinion, for all you Spam lovers!) that I think originated in WWI or II, and was something they fed the troops.
