Lower Vs be lower

Hi,

Why does a teacher make the following correction to the sentence?

Original sentence: Their working efficiency will lower.

Revised: Their working efficiency will be lower.

What is the problem with the first original sentence. Personally, lower can be used as a verb, I do not find any mistakes, but why does the teacher add a "be" before lower. a bit confused.

Thanks!

Only because we don't often use 'lower' as a verb in that context. Effiency generally decreases or drops off.
