Low percentile, substitute

Hi,

1) If I pass an exam by the skin of my teeth, can I say that my score's in the lowest percentile?

2) If my hairdresser tells me that she doesn't have a single slot in her diary, but that she'll try to squeeze me in when somebody cancels their appointment, am I a 'substitute' or a 'replacement'?

"I'll note you down as a replacement/substitute in case somebody has to cancel their appointment."

Thank you.

You are on the waitlist (waiting list). You are waitlisted for an appointment. You are on standby.

If someone cancels their appointment, and you are at the top of the waitlist, you get their appointment.
