love very much with 'things'

Dear Sir / Madam

Please help me to clarify the following:

1. I love this song very much.
2. I love this book very much.

Recently I read these sentences are wrong because "love very much" is not used with "Things", only with 'person'. Instead we can use "love" only.

Is it correct?
Is it the same in both American English & British English ?
