Love isn't all that it seems I did you wrong

The following is song lyrics called "Burning House" (See here for the entire lyrics):

I had a dream about a burning house
You were stuck inside, I couldn't get you out
I laid beside you and pulled you close
And the two of us went up in smoke

Love isn't all that it seems I did you wrong
I'll stay here with you until this dream is gone
....

I've got two questions.
(1) In the third line, technically, "lay", but not "laid", is correct, right?

(2) What does the fifth line mean? It seems that the that-clause modifies "all" but I'm not sure how the clause is related to it.

It needs that full stop to make it grammatical. The first part means love isn't as good as I had imagined. The second part means I didn't treat you well.

1) Yes.

2) It seems to be a run-on (badly laid out or badly punctuated). It seems that it should mean:

Love isn't all that it seems / I did you wrong

That line always puzzles me a little. She spaces it
Love / isn't all / that it seems I did you wrong, so it's not clear what it means. Two possibilities are Love isn't all that it seems. I did you wrong, or Love isn't all that. It seems I did you wrong. Neither is what she says though. Still, I like the song, a

Thanks, guys.

One more thing about the first question.

I'm told that 'lay' is the right spelling. Now, when you listen to the song, you can't possibly hear the "d" sound of "laid" anyway. However, the official lyrics video posted on YouTube, as shown below, spells it as "laid". Moreover,

That's Cam's official channel, although sometimes the lyrics on videos are wrong. I looked to see if the CD comes with the lyrics, but it doesn't. It sounds as though she says lay, which would be correct, but you may hear native speakers saying laid, since the past tense of lay is laid, and people confuse to lie (in bed),

Thinking about the line, "Love isn't all it seems I did you wrong": I wonder if she intentionally combined Love isn't all it seems and It seems I did you wrong.

Lie-lay is an irregular verb. The past tenses of most verbs in English are formed by adding -ed on the end, and most of the exceptions have a modified stem with a -d added to it. As there is already a word laid, which is the past of lay, it is not surprising that people want to use the form that ends in a d, because it sounds like past tense, while l

JungKimwhy would native speakers not just "confuse" but almost "prefer" the incorrect form?
The incorrect form is regular. It seems to me that I've read somewhere that all languages go through periods where speakers start regularizing the verb forms, rather like children do (I throwed the ball and Bobby catched it). Besides, why have two verbs that ha

Do you know what this song means? Like if you were to analyze each line and tell me what each line means, could you?
