Lost in thoughts

Hi,
What does 'lost in one's thoughts' mean? For example:
She just stood there, lost in her thoughts.

Many thanks

She is concentrating so hard on what is going on inside her head that she isn't aware of what's going on around her (she's lost).

To me, the most common way to say that would be "lost in thought" (thought = singular, no possessive adjective):

- She was so lost in thought she didn't notice that the traffic light had turned green. By the time she realized that the cars behind her were impatiently honking, the light had turned red again.
