Losing my mind trying to figure out what word I am looking for

I am going insane over here. Trying to find the word for when something is included in two subjects or occurances, or rather the interplay between these two. Like, say something is correlated with two things at once: sadness may lead to depression, but it may also lead to suicide... thus suicide and depression are X, or suicide and depression X with each other. (They) interact is not the right word, nor is cross.... Hmm, can anyone think of it, please? Need it to make a point in an essay. Thanks!

Suicide and depression are psychological maladies, but they are only related in that they are both possible consequences of feelings of sadness. Usually suicide is a consequence of untreated depression though. A person who is only sad does not commit suicide.

  • Depression or psychosis is usually an intervening state of mind.
  • There is no clear relation; I think that's why we can't come up with a name for it...
