Lose and forget?

One of the textbooks I use says that you can’t use “forget” in the following sentence. But would you agree with that?

You will never forget/lose the fond memories of spending time with your friends as a child.

Does it say why? I assume it's the combination of 'forget' with 'memories'.

No. You can easily find lots of examples of "forget ... memories" online which sound completely
