Loosen up

"My cat loosened up a few strings out of my jumper."

I heard a blogger talking about her cat and how her claws get stuck in her clothes sometimes.

My question is this: Shouldn't it be 'in my jumper' in this example?

"She loosened (up) a few strings in my jumper."

Thank you.

That would be better. Including “up” seems needless. The choice of “strings” is odd. Threads would make sense instead.
