Looking forward to hearing from you or hear from you

Hello,
Can someone please explain what is the proper form. Is it correct to say "I am looking forward to hearing from you" or "I am looking forward to hear from you"?

Thank you.

Say "I am looking forward to hearing from you". The idea is that you look forward to a noun or a gerund, which is a noun-like form of a verb.
