Looking for the right word...

I am trying to figure out what word would be used to describe when a person refers to THEMSELF (in the 1st person) in the process of explaining a concept or idea which they are really intending to use as more of a general statement about a group of people. I've been told it is "editorialize" but in looking that up I don't think that is the right word...any help out there?

when some one is a mouthpeice for one side of an explaination, i thought it might be "schill" or sound like that.
