Looking for suitable words

Hi everyone,

Please correct the sentences, the expression, the choice of words below.

1. A missing carton full of delicate garments had traveled a long long way before it finally found its way to me. When I looked at it, it's dirty, dented. Can I say:

It's worn out.

The corners of the boxes are torn up.

The tape is broken, someone must have opened the box.

2. If a container is 3 times a shipment size, as such, there'd be an extra space/room left in the container. Can I say:

We need to fill the extra space, otherwise it will be wobbling. The shipment inside the container could be damaged or runied or broken.

What other words for this extra space? What other words for "fill"?

3. If the shipment is of fine china, the best way to cushion the breakage is wrapping them (fine china) with bubble wraps.

4. Is "sick leave note" same as "Doctor excuse" as "Doctor note"?

5. People say: This is my neighbor living down the street? Is "up the street" correct? Does the street numbers mean anything here?

6. I'm showing a passer-by the directions. The place is just two blocks from where we are. Do you say: Two blocks down the street ( while your finger is actully pointing the direction to show him /her)

7. After a baby has just taken its bottle, you're helping her to get the gas out of her by patting her back lightly so she'd burp. How do you say it in anther way?

8. a chair, a stool, Do you describe it "high chair, low stool"? If it spins, what's the name you'd call?

9. A panel of glass for table top, the edge should be "rounded off" so it won't pose danger to anyone near the table. Also "edge" or "edges"?

10. A glass display showcase cabinet. Do you refer the top part of the cabinet "the head" or "the top" And the foot?

11. I'm putting together a book shelf. Do you refer the parts "wood panels" or "shelves"? And do you call "side panels" If there's one panel missing from the package, which goes to the very bottom that supports the shelf, would you say: the bottom panel is missing from the order?

12. A plywood board which was required putting paint on, but the edges are not shiny so that means they are finished with finishes. How would you describe this?

Maybe I could say "The carton is all tainted and torn". Or "The carton was all tainted and torn by the time it arrrived"

About the directions; I have one question needing help.

A Train goes from stop A to stop B and goes on to the last stop, X, the terminal. And we call this X-line. And my client and I have planned on going to a place at stop E.

Maybe I could say "The carton is all tainted and torn". Or "The carton was all tainted and torn by the time it arrrived"


"tainted" is not the right word here. "torn" is fine; "all torn" suggests a lot of tearing but is informal. It's fine in everyday use, but more formally (say in a letter of complaint) you could say "badly torn
