Looking for people for a pedagogy project on culture

Question

Hi,I am studying in Teaching English as a second language at university. In my pedagogy class on culture we have a project to do.I would like to discuss with people from other cultures. Since culture is a very wide topic..I think I will focus on one aspect. I would like to know about school systems of different countries. Please feel free to ask question about my culture to. At what level are you teaching? In what grade people are starting to learn English in China?

I don't know if you are familiar with Québec (Canada) system of education... First there is 6 years in primary school, afterwards 5 years in secondary, 2-3 years in Cegep and then there is University. In the rest of Canada there is no such thing as Cegep between secondary and University.

From about 2 years now, children are starting to learn English in first grade of the primary level, which I think is a great thing. Before children were starting English in grade four (primary).

I still got 2 years left in my formation to become English teacher out of 4. I can't wait to teach.

I teach English at middle school, just like secondary in your country.

In China kids start to learn English when they are in Grade Three.

We have four levels in education, they are primary school, middle school, high school and university. it's the tiredest time when they are in middle school
and high school, because they want to go to the best university.

Many children join the after school activitity to learn English.

Hi!

Well, I can tell you about the spanish school system.

First of all, we have a "pre-primary school" (I don't know how to name it, but here, we call it "Preescolar") where children from 3 to 5 years go and start learning the main things like the colours, and numbers...etc. Later, starts primary school, from 6 years old to 13-14 years old. After this, you should do "E.S.O" (in spain it means "educación secundaria obligatoria" and translating: "second education obligated") where teenagers stay there for four years. After that you can choose about three things: start working, doing "F.P" (which means Professional Formation and takes from 2 to 4 years, deppendig the course and after this you can go to university), or studying "Bachiller" which is like a High Grade, where you can get specific things that will prepare you to enter to university: so students choose what do they want to study in university, and they prepare only subjects for their careers. This "High Grade" takes only two years, and after that you can start university with a minimum age of 18 years old.

In China, English as a second language at school. students learn it harder.

In teaching, teachers emphasize grammar teaching and students do lots of English exercises. They are under too much pressure.

Writing is our main English test. So the students are good at written examination.

How was your educational situation? And how was your class situation?

Actually I don't like the current education system. Although English is important in many fields, many people don't use it when they left school. English should not be the weight in one's life. It's a skill to communicate with people in the world.

Sorry I did not reply right away, I had a lot of work and exams to do for school! My semester is now finished and I am on vacation for 4 months!

Here, teachers emphasizes on communication skills first and than they add grammar . Both are very important.

For young learners they have two competencies to achieve:

''to act on understanding of text’’ and to communicate orally in English
