Looking for a word

The soldier entered, carrying three AK-47's he'd taken from the killed terrorists.

Hi. I had a word in mind I would use instead of "taken", but I can't come up with it. I've tried searching for it but I can't find it. So, please help, which words could be used instead of "taken" here? Thank you in advance.

A thesaurus will give you these choices: seized, confiscated, stolen, purloined, expropriated, appropriated, removed, retrieved, collected, extracted I don't see any there that are any better than 'taken'. Maybe 'confiscated'. CJ
