Looking for a word

Hi, which is the appropriate word for washroom if I want to ask for direction to a total stranger? Toilet/ Loo/ Restroom/ Men's room/ Lavatory/ Bathroom?

I believe that 'toilet' is the most universal term among those you provided.

I would use toilet (1), bathroom (2) or restroom (3). If it is a complete stranger, I would use toilet only.

Loo - Mainly used in British English. People who are not familiar with it might be confused.
Men's room (BrE: the gents) - Appropriate when you are referring to a toilet used by men or boys only.
