Looking for a phrase

Last year, I took an honours course with a super-duper lazy friend, W, who makes it a point to always submit her papers late, but because she is so bright, she never gets marked down. When I told an instructor about this course, she used an interesting phrase to say that I would be taking advantage of W's laziness to submit my own papers late and avoid being marked down.

Now, I don't remember that phrase. Any guesses?

They sound good; the second seems much more professorial.

Your second sentence does not seem to make logical sense.

eg Do you mean I would be taking advantage or I should be taking advantage? In other words, was the instructor giving you advice?

I'm spitballing. The guy could have said anything. These are all in the ballpark, pun intended, including the "aegis" one.

enoon, I really appreciate your guesses. Could you think of a predicative adjective phrase, something along the lines of 'W is your _____________'?

Thanks for replying, Clive.

It makes sense to me, perhaps because I wrote it. Can you explain why it does not make sense to you?

The instructor did not advise me to take advantage of W, but she said that I would begin to take advantage of her with time.

You mean predicate nominative.

guardian angel
big dog
downfield blocker
fairy godmother
meal ticket
ticket to ride
point man

Will you know it when you see it?

It's the word 'would' that I have trouble interpreting in your sentence.

Yes, she was making a prediction.
