Looked vs. looks

It looked like something you eat if you lived in Louisiana.
It looks like something you eat if you lived in Louisiana.

Note: The person referred to by 'you' does not live in Louisiana, that's why I used 'lived'.

Is it 'looked' or 'looks' that is correct for the sentence above?
If both are acceptable, what is the difference?

You need to add "would" -- It looks like something you would eat if you lived in Louisiana (present tense -- if you're describing the way something looks at the time you're speaking). It looked like something you would eat if you lived in Louisiana (if you're describing something from the past).
