Looked at the autopsies

Hi

Certain doctor said:
When we looked at the autopsies of our 20-year-old GIs in Korea and Vietnam, fully 80 percent already had gross evidence of coronary disease that you could see without a microscope.

OK, is he saying that he was looking at the results of the autopsies or he was performing these autopsies?
I understand these soldiers fought in Korea and Vietnam but it doesn't mean the autopsies were performed there?

Hello! My guess would be he looked at the bodies that were in the hospital or wherever. He didn't perform and autopsy, he just saw the bodies that might, or might not, have been examined.

The doctor was most likely reading and citing these sorts of reports: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8335815
