look for vs search for

Hello there,

I've been asked recently if there's any difference between to look (for sth) and to search (for sth)

What's your opinion on that subject? I don't know if there's really a difference between, let's say:

I'm looking for a new CD by...
AND
I'm searching for a new CD by...

Thanks, best wishes,

There is really no difference in meaning. Except 'look for' is a phrasal verb.

They are approximately the same, but searching usually suggests more effortful activity -- a more difficult task.

You search for someone lost at sea, for example, but you look for a birthday card for a friend.
I look for items commericially available in shops, like CD's. I never search for them. However, I might search for a copy of a rare edition of a book of poetry published 100 y
