Do you understand what I am trying to say? How should I write it?
I hate it when I need to use scotch tape and I have to look for the start for 5 minutes.

That's funny. A non-native speaker would never guess that we call that the end of the tape: "I hate it when I need to use scotch tape and I have to look for the end for five minutes."
