How about "alumnus"; on the other hand, I guess it doesn't mean a person who has recently graduated, or does it?

No, alumnus does not mean a recent graduate - just a graduate.

Not really. A degree is a Batchelor of 'whatever' but the person isn't called a batchelor. (that means unmarried man).

batchelor? Is that a British spelling? I've never seen it before.

I guess it's because they come out in fresh batches every year [:^)]

Oops sorry. Bachelor, of course.

I've also seen "fresh graduate" used.

Very informally they get referred to as 'graddies'. (As in 'I've been stuck with training the ****** graddie at work').

Batchelor's is/was a make of canned peas! In general it's a surname. Bachelor is the normal spelling.
