Look exactly alike

Hi everyone,

When someone says, "They looked exactly alike", does that mean "they looked same" or "they looked almost same" or "they looked quite similar"?

Would you care for some thoughts about it?

the same. I feel that alike is stronger than 'the same', but that's just my feeling. Others could see these two as equal expressions, along with 'identical'.

Similar is clearly not as strong as the other two.

Using the modifier 'exactly' makes the comparison much stronger.
