Hello, "He looked down the road."
what does it mean? (I think that he is not in higher place.)
thanks

Top answer

It means he is on (or beside) the road, and is looking in the direction the road goes, at the road itself or what is on the road. If he were in a higher place it would say he looked down on the road , or he looked down at the road . He looked down at the road could also mean he was standing on or beside the road and looked at the road surface.
