You shouldn't look at one thing separately from the other things, otherwise you won't be able to grab the whole image.
If 'separately from' were replaced with 'apart from' as:
You shouldn't look at one thing apart from the other things, otherwise you won't be able to grab the whole image.
would it still sound OK and make the same sense?
