Long sentence, is it correct?

Could a english speaker tell me how to write this sentence?
I'd rather x than y is correct right but the x and y clause are long.

I'd rather wait until she's in a deep sleep to put her down than put her down when she's just fallen asleep and have her wake up and have to try to get her to fall asleep again.

Thank you

"I'd rather give her time to fall into a deep sleep before I put her down; otherwise, it's likely she'll wake up and I'll have to wait until she falls asleep again."
