Long sentence

I'm trying to write this sentence without using 'he'.

This is what I can come up with, but it's just too long and wordy.

Help appreciated. Thanks teachers.

By contrast, however, Erik Erikson, founder of ego psychology, believed in the Freudian interpretation of the dynamic unconscious, but differed somewhat from Freud in that when referring to the existential self, the conscious ego functions as an autonomous system, which, unlike the Freudian structural model, is not mediated by the id and superego.

May I ask why you have placed such a restriction on yourself? In a certain academic writing style, your sentence is not overly long and wordy. The bigger problem is that it is not actually structurally correct.

I don't understand this reason. Using personal pronouns does not prevent you from being objective.

GPYI don't understand this reason.
I suspect that Anonymous did not understand the instruction to avoid using the first person personal pronoun and thought it applied to all personal pronouns.
