Long post on three tense questions

1. In the Bible Guide by Raymond Brown by Harper Torch, in its section on Jeremiah, it is written:

The final chapter (52) provides historical detail of the exile judgment. Jeremiah's immense breath of vision and world outlook is illustrated not only by his messages to other countries but also in his continuing concern for those Jews who have been sent to Babylonia (Letter to the Exiles, 29) and also for those who have gone to Egypt for refuge, even though Jeremiah had warned them not to go (42-44). Against his will they take him with them (43:6-7).

I am wondering why Past Perfect in the part "... eventhough Jeremiah had warnedd them not to go (42-44)."

2. Is it OK to include self-contemplating part in the present tense or present continuing tense in a diary?

I went to the amusement park. I have a great time. It has been great. I think it is good to go away once in a while to rejuvenate your mind and body. I will be thinking about going to another amusement park some time soon.

3. Let us pretend that I have gathered a group of students and have them see a short scene where an American and a Chinese are talking in English? If I want to ask students this question just after seeing it, how should I say it? I think I am confused as to the use of present tense and present continous tense in denoting a present situation.

OK, students, what English expressions do they use in the scene?

OK, students, what English expressions are they using at the scene?
