Does any of these sentences make sense:



a) "As my eyes longed on the ship, I thought: "I wish I was there."


b) "As I longed my eyes on the ship, I thought: 'I wish I was there'."




Note: By this, I mean 'as I looked long enough at the ship.

No. I think you want 'lingered'.

As my eyes lingered on the ship, I thought, "I wish I were there".

'was there' is not wrong. It's just that I would say 'were there' after 'wish'.
