logistics company

I just read an article about logistics companies. It says that "the logistics of physical items usually involves the integration of information flow, material handling, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and often security."

My question is, is this 'logistics' thing common for native English speakers?
If your company doesn't involve production, don't you call your company 'a logistic'? Do you call it just a 'transportation company', 'warehousing company' or 'a warehousing and transportation company', depending on what you work with?

Thank you.

Thank you very much, Mister Micawber. (and sorry my question wasn't clear. I'll try to make myself clearer next time I ask questions!)
