A car on the intersecting road was heading toward me as I turned onto the road. Before I merge into the slow lane, the car hit the back fender of my car.

Is the above logical and understandable?

The junction in your diagram is called a four way stop. Is the junction in your scenario a four way stop. To give this some more meaning you need to talk about priority.

I agree that this remains as much a problem of logic as of the proper words.

If you are turning left, and car that was on the road that you were turning on to hit you, but you had a four-way stop, then it seems you had started turning first and that person ran the stop sign and hit you.

If you were turning left and the car that was already on that road hit you without a four-way

The names are various-- a crossroads, an intersection, a 4-way stop, a 4-way junction-- but 'intersecting road' is just an attempt to describe it.
