Local food and imported food

In many countries, people like to eat a wider variety of food than cannot be grown in their local area. As a result, much of the food people eat today has to come from other regions.

Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh disadvantages?

Today, people are more particular over kinds of food that they have a high demand for various food produced in different areas. In my opinion, despite the merits, the demerits of this development are still more significant.

One evident benefit of people mostly consuming exotic food that is non-existent in their home country is that eating will not be a boring activity for them since they have the chance to try brand-new kinds of food they have ever eaten before which provokes their appetite a lot. For instance, as I have always been tired of the tropical fruits grown in my city such as bananas, jackfruits and avocados, some wintry fruits, particularly blueberries made in America, are extremely unique and exciting for me to eat every day and that satisfies my aim for trying more and more new dishes.

Reasonable as the above point is, I still hold the view that this trend is not advantageous to some extent. Firstly, people’s care for imported food definitely leads to the low sales of local food. Obviously, domestic food counters and food shops will not be patronized by customers which probably will also cause their bankruptcy and the local farmers as well as sellers to have difficulty making ends meet. Secondly, environmental issues are also due to this development. Particularly, food coming from other regions usually has to be transported in large trucks that has a great contribution to air pollution and exhausted fuel sources, especially when the trips last for days. Finally, it seems to me that people are likely to have health problems more if they are too interested in imported dishes, as I perceive some kinds of food like that have to be preserved by being put food colors and additives before being shipped. Accordingly, individuals possibly absorb all the harmful substances and suffer from diseases.

In short, although exotic food brings people the uniqueness and interests, as for me, it still does more harm than good.

Please help me with this! Thank you!!!
