Loan and debt...

I looked these 2 words in my dictionary and they both have one meaning. So, could anyone explain me what the difference between loan and debt is?

A loan is a specific kind of debt. With a loan a person or bank gives (lends) you money. Debt means any amount that you owe: it could be a loan or a credit card or a mortgage. Debt in a collective sense (I am $2,000 in debt) means the total of all money that you owe (your loan + your credit card + your mortgage).

I understood a little. I don't know if it is right:

ex1: Tom borrowed Mary $100 -> We call it loan.
ex2: Tom bet with Mary in a football match and he lose. He have to pay for Mary an amount of money. -> We call it debt.
Is it right?

A loan is when you give someone money that he or she is supposed to pay back and that loan would be that person's debt.

Hi,

Let's review the verbs borrow, lend, loan and owe.
And also the nouns loan and debt.

Here are two examples.

Assume Mary went to the library, and brought home a book

Ok, can I understand with a simple way like this:
Loan is a noun for the verb lend.
Debt means you are on the status of borrowing.

Hi,

That's the general idea.

You should try to write a few sentences, if you wish to.

the basic difference in Loan and Debt is ........'Loan' is primary ......when we need money we get 'Loan' (from bank or any institution) ........and when we get loan then it is 'debt' to us ...so debt is secondary .....all kinds of Loans becomes 'debts' until we repay it ......also the word 'Debt' has some kind of tension / burden of repaying it ........but the word loan is 'clear and fresh'.....

Yeah, I have just thought about some sentences, tell me if it was wrong:
- His pen ran out of ink, so he borrowed my pen.
- I needed some money for my studying fee, I was broke, so I borrowed her 100$.
She gave me a loan of 100$.
I am in debt now.
