"Loads up on hours"

What does this phrase even mean?

The original sentence is just "I will load up on hours this semester. It's the home-stretch!"

Thanks for any help in advance

I think it means a college student has decided to enroll in many classes, providing a lot of "course hours." A typical college class that meets three times a week for one hour at a time would equal 3 course hours. You need a certain number of hours in four years to graduate. So an easy semester might earn you only 12 hours, or a really difficult semester might be worth 16 or 18 hours.

So you were interested in the meaning of "load up on" rather than "hours," (or, for that matter, "the home stretch")? We had to guess which part of the sentence in your original post was unclear to you.
