"... living standard(s?) of indigenous Australians and (that of?) non indigenous Australians..."

Hi all

I was just wondering if this sentence sounds natural. Should I use the plural form of 'living standard(s)'? And do I have to put 'that of' in front of 'non indigenous...'?

The living standard of indigenous Australians and non indigenous Australians vary by a shameful chasm.

Thankyou

Hi, I was just wondering if this sentence sounds natural. Should I use the plural form of 'living standard(s)'? Plural is more common, or else the common phrase 'the standard of living'.

Chasm is related to nature. So, why do want to ashame the nature. Please don't do this we are already facing environmental prblems. But u can use deep/great/intense/low/profound..

Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking of using 'chasm' figuratively. And I wasn't sure if shameful used this way would mean that the chasm is so wide that we should be ashamed o

Hi,

Clive, would it make sense if I said 'There is a shameful chasm between...'?

Sure, I just forgot to include that word in my last post. It's clear that the word 'chasm' is just being used figuratively.
