living alongside/along/beside civilation

These animals (marsupials) have adapted quite well to living alongside civilization and the changes it has brought.

Hi,
Is it correct to replace "alongside" in the above with "along" or "beside?" Thanks.

"along" is wrong. "beside" is OK but has, to me, more of a sense of literal adjacency. So, if you want a more figurative sense then I would personally tend to go with "alongside".
