Vocabulary

live on/live off

Hello,
Wouldn't it be better to use "live on" instead of "live off" in this sentence: "He lived off cookies and chocolate for about two months."?

Thank you

Yes, I think on is the proper preposition here. "Live off" sounds more like someone else is paying the bills: he lived off his parents until he was 21 years old.

In that sentence "lived on" works; "lived off" doesn't.
