Vocabulary

"live one's own life" vs. "live on one's own"

Could you please suggest whether the expressions

(i) live one's own life

(ii) live on one's own

have the same meaning? The meaning implied is "living as an adult"

separately from one's parents, earning a living, having a family of one's

own (husband/wife, children), etc. If neither of these expressions fits,

could you please suggest one that will?

Thanks in advance.

The two expressions differ in meaning, and neither means what you want. "live one's own life" usually means to live according to one's own principles, and not succumb to outside pressures to live in such and such a way. g.
