No. Say You can't live off a benefit in this country because it's too low.



But really, you need a context in which the listener knows what kind of benefit you are talkng about.

I would say live on a pension, but off one's parents.

As for the benefit I was thinking about money that the goverment gives for the unemployed.

I'm sure I saw somewhere "live off of". If in this instance I cannot use the second "of" when can I use it then?

I've recollected where I saw it.

It's Something in the Way by Nirvana.

The first stanza says:

Underneath the bridge
My tarp has sprung a leak

And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from my ceiling

'Cause they don't have any feelings

I loathe "off of" in any context. There is never any need for it, and I recommend that you avoid it.
