live in your own time

Is it correct to say 'live in their time' and is it correct to 'be up to date with technology'? Is it correct to be behind with technology?

My grandparents know nothing about technology. They aren't up to date with technology because they live in their time.

Is this sentence correct?
They are behind with technology. He's always 2 iPhones behind. When the iPhone 6 comes out, he will buy the iPhone 4.
Thanks
