Perhaps it's better to say:
Her life journey is a vivid example of how a dedicated chemist contributed to the service of the science.
Does it sound poetic enough?

It seems to me that "the contribution to the service of the science" and "how a dedicated chemist contributed to the service of the science" describe specific things, not general concepts of which one could cite an "example". "the science" means a specific science that you have previously mentioned.

It seems to me that "the contribution to the service of the science" and "how a dedicated chemist contributed to the service of the science" describe specific things, not general concepts of which one could cite an "example".

"the science" means a specific science that you have previously mentioned. If you mean science in general then omit "the".
