Literary inversion

Hello!

Could you explain the difference of inversion rules in these two sentences:


Hot though the night air was they slept soundly.

So successful was her business, that Marie was able to retire at the age of 50.

The night air was hot.
Hot though the night air was ...
So hot was the night air ...
*Hot so the night air was ... (not possible)
?Though hot was the night air ... (poetic only)

Her business was successful.
